House Face lift - Butterflies

When trying to figure out what to do to make the front of our house not so plain we thought "what better way to add beauty to the front of our house the make some butterflies?"

We found some plans for butterflies, built them out of 1/4 inch plywood and 1x2 pine, painted them and then mounted them on the front of the house.

Each time we see them it reminds us how creative God is.

Happy 20th Anniversary Cake

August 23, 2005 we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. As a garage woodworker the challenge was to come up with a creative way to celebrate.  After sitting in my shop thinking, looking around and thinking some more. It came to me why not build a cake?

Some dry wall cut to size and nailed together, then frosted with drywall mud and paint.  No cake is finished without candles. So to finish off the cake I cut 20 holes the size of quarters in the shape of a “20”. To complete the Anniversary cake I placed in 20 rolls of Bi-Centennial Quarters with a flame glued to the top of each roll.  Then place in each hole.in each hole.

The Completed Owl

The facelift of our owl is complete. As well as repainting the owl this time I also painted the base that the owl sits on a metallic gold. He is proudly sitting at the end of our porch welcoming all of our guests.

Carvings I Have Done

Yesterday we celebrated the Fourth of July with a cookout at my mom’s house. After the steaks were grilled and the potato salad was made we sat down to eat. We had a great time of celebrating out nations 236 birthday. As we watched a baseball game on TV I noticed the first wood carving I had done sitting on top of TV. It brought back memories of other carving I had done. Here is a collection of different style of carving. Some which were just stained and others that were painted to bring out the details. All these carvings were done as gifts for my dad and mom.

Wooden Frog Puzzle

We celebrated my Grand Nephew Tristan VanderBoegh’s first birthday on Saturday. A lot of what I learned about woodworking came from my dad. One of the things he made for each of my boys when they were young was wooden puzzles.  I went on line to find a picture of a frog that I could create a puzzle for Tristan. This is what I came up with. Happy Birthday Tristan, Love Ya Uncle Ron.
